Instructions for using UPS, repairing and operating UPS

UPS, like other electrical equipment, will encounter minor errors after a period of use. This article will guide you on how to use, operate and repair UPS, helping to ensure continuous power supply for important equipment in the event of a power outage. You will learn about the installation process, safe operating principles, and common troubleshooting measures to maintain the performance and lifespan of the equipment. This information is very useful for users and technicians when managing and maintaining UPS systems effectively. Let’s find out with QNT Investment and Trading Services Co., Ltd.!

I. Structure and operating principle of UPS

   1. UPS structure

A UPS includes: Charger, battery, inverter and electrical relay.

   2. How UPS works

The UPS operates on the principle of transferring electricity from the battery to the power source in use when this power source is unstable. At the same time, when the power source is stable again, it will be automatically charged into the battery to help the battery have enough power when needed.

II. Instructions for using UPS, how to operate and how to repair UPS

   1. Determine installation location

When choosing a location to install the UPS, customers need to choose a well-ventilated place, away from surrounding obstacles. It needs to be installed in a location with little dust and metal dust, and it must also be easy to dissipate heat.
In addition, when choosing an installation location, the following points should be noted:
– Its heat dissipation holes must be clear, avoiding obstructions
– Do not place the UPS on soft carpets
– Do not place the UPS near a heat source or a place with direct sunlight.
– Do not place the UPS in a place with high humidity, especially near water sources, chemical sources or seawater vapor.

   2. Things to note when operating UPS

– Charge the UPS for 16 hours:
  • Before plugging the load into the UPS for the first use
  • Immediately after each power outage and the UPS has been operating on battery power
  • When receiving the product after each warranty
  • The UPS is stored and not used for more than 01 month
– Turn off the UPS at the end of each working day, or when not in use.
– Turn off the power in the correct order: Turn off (OFF) the device -> Turn off (OFF) the UPS -> Turn off (OFF) the circuit breaker.
– In an environment with air conditioning, the machine should be operated on battery power once every 6 months.
– In places without air conditioning, the UPS should be operated on battery power once every 3 months.
– When there is a power outage, the machine should not be operated on battery power until the battery is exhausted and automatically turns off.
– When there is a power outage, do not let the UPS operate on battery power for more than 30 minutes (except for machines using large capacity industrial batteries of 12V24Ah or more).
– When the battery has been discharged, do not try to restart it to operate on battery power again, but must recharge it immediately before using it again.
– Do not plug load devices such as printers, fans, motors, etc. into an Offline UPS with a capacity of ≤1000VA, but plug these devices directly into the grid power source.

   3. When does a UPS need to have its battery replaced?

For UPS, the battery is the most important part that determines its existence. Therefore, at some point, the battery needs to be replaced to ensure the machine operates stably, safely and effectively. So when should the battery be replaced? There are the following ways to identify when the UPS needs a battery replacement:

Method 1: Check the usage time
Based on how to check the usage time, we can know when to replace the battery.
Method 2: Based on the output power level
By checking the output power source, we can know when to replace the battery. In addition, depending on the stable or unstable power source, the usage time of the battery is also different, from which we can calculate the time to replace the battery.
Method 3: Remove the battery to check
After using the UPS for a while, you can remove it to check and estimate the time to replace the battery.
Method 4: Use a specialized testing device
This is the simplest way. With this method, you can easily check and the results returned to you are also the most accurate.
