1. Introduction
The magnetic card switch is a type of switch that uses a magnetic card-type electric lock. When you hand over the room or the magnetic card device to someone, that person will use the integrated card to turn on the electricity in that room. When you want to use the room without your card, the electrical system in the room cannot be started.
There are 2 popular types of switches nowadays: optical magnetic cards and chip magnetic cards. Each type of card will have a different operating principle.
For optical magnetic cards, the card uses a sensor eye to collect and emit light. When attached to the 2 eyes, the card will not see each other and the electricity will turn on. When the card is removed, the 2 eyes will see each other. After 10 seconds, the electricity will turn off.
For chip magnetic cards, the card uses an IC to recognize whether the card has been installed or not. If it is not a card with a code installed, the electricity will not be turned on.
All SIMON magnetic card switch product lines have a time delay function: When the card is inserted, the circuit will be closed immediately, but when the card is removed, the power will be turned off after 10 seconds.
Note: For hotel rooms with large capacity equipment, you should connect an additional magnetic starter to ensure the best operation.

3. Diagram Interpretation
The magnetic card switch is a type of switch that is opened by a card-type electric lock, so in design, it switch cannot withstand high loads. However, in practice, it is required to turn on and off for an entire room including air conditioner, TV, refrigerator, water heater, etc.
To make this type of switch withstand the load, people use an additional contactor. There are many different types of contactors, which can turn off all 2 phases, or only cut off 1 phase. Depending on the capacity, features and requirements of the project, choose the most suitable contactor.
Normally, people use a contactor specifically designed for this type of card switch, like a single Aptomat bar, which can be installed right in the electrical cabinet of the hotel room.
4. Working Principle
Optical magnetic card: Light is emitted from the emitting and receiving LEDs on the receiving side. When there is no card inserted, the two light-emitting eyes can still see each other. When there is a card inserted, the two light-emitting eyes are blocked and cannot see each other, and the circuit is closed. When the card is removed, the two light-emitting eyes can see each other and receive the signal that the card has been removed. At this time, the timer will count down 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, the circuit will be cut off.
Chip magnetic card: Works by recognizing the code that has been attached to the card. If another card is inserted, the electrical system will not work and can only be used by placing the coded card according to the code of the original card.
