Transformer
Step 2: Check the wiring in the machine
The transformer should be clearly labeled. But it is best to have a circuit diagram to easily see how the machine is connected. The circuit diagram is usually attached in the user manual or on the manufacturer’s website.
Step 3: Identify the power consumption and output efficiency of the machine
The first circuit – the circuit that creates the magnetic field will be connected to the primary circuit in the transformer. In addition, the voltage consumed by the machine must also be clearly stated on the instruction label. The second circuit – the circuit that receives the power generated by the magnetic field will be connected to the secondary circuit in the machine. The voltage used for this circuit must also be clearly stated on the label and diagram.
Step 4: Check the output filter carefully
Usually, capacitors and diodes are added to the secondary circuit to convert the output AC current to DC current. But the filtering and current conversion will not be written on the label, but on the circuit diagram.
Step 5: Prepare to measure the voltage in the circuit
Remove the packaging and the electrical panel to see the circuit in the transformer. It is recommended to use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage. Multimeters can be purchased in electrical stores.
Step 6: Determine the exact amount of electricity consumed by a transformer
When charging, use an AC multimeter to measure the electricity consumption of the primary circuit. If the measurement is below 80% of the expected value, the transformer or the power grid supplying the primary circuit is faulty. In this case, the primary circuit must be separated from the input circuit. If the input voltage exceeds the expected value, the primary circuit will be damaged.
Step 7: Carefully measure the output power of the secondary circuit in the transformer
Finally, we need to measure the output power of the secondary circuit in the transformer. If you have checked that there is no output filter or current converter in the secondary circuit diagram, then use the AC mode of the multimeter. If both are present, use the DC mode of the digital multimeter.
If the desired voltage is not achieved in the secondary circuit, then the transformer, or the filter, or the current converter is defective. The filter should be checked separately from the current converter. If the test does not show anything, the transformer may be defective.
